I probably spent the equivalent of $250,000 in quarters trying to beat this game in the arcade (remember those?). Due to a lack of funding in the 4th grade, I was unable to complete this project back in 1983.
For those of you not familiar with this game, it featured animation created by former Disney animator Don Bluth. It was on a laserdisc so it was fully animated, instead of most games at that time which were still sprite based. Instead of controlling “Dirk the Daring” directly, you had to control the reflexes of the character and a short animation would play for correct or incorrect choices. It was mad frustrating since you’d die constantly and it was one of the first arcade games that cost $.50. So it was an expensive endeavor.
Now it’s out for the iPhone. Time to finish this.
Get it here.
