There are certain things I’ve grown to expect out of my old city of Baltimore. Like two dudes taking a baby to go see a more than likely toxic freight train derailment in an industrial area, and surprise, a railcar explodes in front of them. And of course, within a few hours a house music remix hits the web of their adventure. Stay classy Bmore, I love ya!

Southwest road trip – New Mexico

On the 2nd half of the trip, my wife and I stayed for a couple days in Santa Fe and travelled around the northern part of the state. It was quite beautiful here as well.

When we got to Santa Fe, I was hoping to see a bunch of old train stuff, but there wasn’t anything to be found except for maybe the engine they used in an episode of Breaking Bad. So we just relaxed and kicked it for a bit, including a visit to a Japanese mountain spa called Ten Thousand Waves.

We ended up driving up to Taos to check out the pueblo which was very cool and serene.

On our way back to Santa Fe we crossed over the Rio Grande Gorge. The flicks are a little deceiving as to how deep this is. The bridge is the 10th highest in the US.

We then ran across these bizarro hippie “earthship houses” in the middle of the desert. I couldn’t drive away from here fast enough…

Unfortunately we only had an hour or two in Albuquerque before jumping on the flight back to DC, so I decided to see if Walt was home. I now know how the series ends later this summer, but I can’t tell you.

Southwest road trip – Arizona

I just completed a road trip from Flagstaff, Arizona, through the northern Painted Desert and over to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Here’s the first batch of photos from the trip.

Here’s some photos from The Painted Desert Project on the Navajo Reservation. Thanks to Sara and jetsonorama for the info.

I liked the look of these old weathered highway billboards.

The indian tchotchkes at some of the tourist stops were a little ridiculous. Especially since many were made in China and Pakistan, as one Navajo woman told us.

Interesting old hotel on Route 66.

We drove through the Petrified Forest. Though not much left of a forest, it looks more like the terrain on the moon.

It’s interesting how quickly the landscape and colors change in the Arizona desert. The Painted Desert looks like photos from Mars.

Contemporary Wing Wall

Lauren at Contemporary Wing had been asking me to paint the wall behind her gallery at 14th and P streets NW since the winter. So as an extension of the Mumbo Sauce show, I quickly pulled together some friends to paint. It was an impromptu session this round, but the wall will be rotating with some planned productions throughout the year.
