Location: One Art Space
23 Warren Street
Tribeca, NYC

Damien A Roman Fine Art and One Art Space are pleased to present  Attack the Block, a concise survey of contemporary street art in America, September 18 through October 10, 2015. This exhibition opens with a public reception for the artists Thursday, September 17, 6 - 9pm.

Co-curated by Damien A Roman and Alex Emmart, Attack the Block features work by 25 street artists whose art is intricately linked to their urban environment.  This diverse exhibition includes many subgenres within street art such as Pop Surrealism, Geometric Abstraction, Figural, Sociopolitical and classic Graffiti.

All over America, in every city, artists are currently changing the landscape.  Armed with wheat-paste, brushes, stencils, spray enamel and other tools of their trade, these devoted ambassadors of art prowl the streets looking to utilize the urban landscape as their canvas.  Whether the artists' impetus is to beautify urban blight or instigate a dialog within the community, there is no ignoring the creative mark that these artists are making and the international art world has taken notice.

One Art Space is located at 23 Warren St. in TribeCa, NY.

MUMBO SAUCE

April 5, 2013 – April 21, 2013

TUESDAY - SUNDAY, 11 to 6PM until April 21

Location: Contemporary Wing 906 H Street, NE 20002 Washington, DC

MUMBO SAUCE is an art exhibition planned in response to PUMP ME UP – D.C. subculture of the 1980san art exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art curated by Roger Gastman that will open February 22, 2013. Curated by Lauren Gentile, owner of Contemporary Wing gallery, and Roger Gastman, MUMBO SAUCE is a survey of artists who have, or once had, deep roots in Washington, D.C. The exhibition will be an exploration and commentary on how the environment of Go-Go, graffiti, punk, hardcore, graphic design and fine art has influenced their work.

Mumbo Sauce is a red, sweet, and tangy sauce, thinner than barbeque sauce and similar to plum sauce. Arguably indigenous to Washington, D.C., the condiment is found in carry outs throughout D.C. and the surrounding metro areas. Mumbo Sauce is a part of the African American culture and is the flavor of home for true D.C. natives.

Just like the sense of identity that Mumbo Sauce carries for D.C., the artists featured in the exhibit will be creating new works and tribute installations surveying their relationships and remembrances from living and working in the Capital. The participating artists are BORF, Richard Colman, Cynthia Connolly, Tim Conlon, COOL "DISCO" DAN, Mark Jenkins, Globe Poster Archive, Clark Fox, Rosina Teri Memolo, Mingering Mike and Robin Rose.

The art will be in various media and for sale.

Opening, Friday, April 5

4 - 6pm Press Preview (private)

6 - 10pm Reception (artists in attendance)

7 - 10pm Music by DJ Stereo Faith

Pump Me Up: D.C. Subculture of the 1980s

Corcoran Gallery of Art

February 23, 2013 – April 7, 2013

500 17th Street, NW

Pump Me Up: D.C. Subculture of the 1980s is the first exhibition to explore the thriving underground of Washington, D.C., during the 1980s, giving visual form to the raucous energy of graffiti, Go-Go music, and a world-renowned punk and hardcore scene.

The exhibition explores the visual culture of the “other D.C.,” demonstrating its place in the history of street art as well as that of America’s capital city. In the midst of notorious problems with drugs and corruption, D.C. gave birth to an infectious visual culture captured in the exhibition through posters, graffiti, graphic art, archival photographs, and ephemera. Pump Me Up tells a local history from a local point of view, while providing a framework for the contemporary surge of interest in street art and underground graphics.
